December Newsletter 2015

One important part of our ministry to our neighborhood is working with the local church.  There are not many churches left in our area.  We love working with Grandview Park Church.  Here is a note from Pastor Rick:

It is hard to believe that 2015 is almost over.  We had a great year of ministry here in urban KCK.  Some of our efforts were successful; some were not; and others are still in process.
We are so blessed to have your love, support, and prayers on our side.

Thank you for believing in us and our outreach.  We believe our investment into our neighbors and neighborhood does make a difference to improve others lives and draw them to Jesus.

We hope and pray that God meets with you this holiday season.  Merry Christmas!

Iowa group enjoying a visit from Dr. John Perkins!
La Paz House attendence has almost doubled.  The neighborhood kids like having a place to hang out.  They always ask me why I’m not open on Saturdays or Sundays.  Some think I should stay open until 9:00 every night.   We love the kids, but I would definitely go crazy if that was the case!  As it is, we are definitly looking for the right volunteers to help in the afternoons.  Please pray about this.  This week I had 17 kids to watch by myself ranging from pre-school up to high school.

Andy giving rides on his homemade trailer!
This month has been quite busy.  We had a group of kids and adults ride their bikes in the Central Avenue Parade.  We hosted a group from Iowa who did a clothing give away and church work day to do some  much needed painting, yard work, and repairs at La Paz House and the church.  It is a blessing to have groups that are invested in our mission to love this neighborhood and share Jesus!

Still crazy after all these years!

You are a blessing to us.  We could not do what we do without you!  Your prayer and support is vital to our ministry to the youth and families in our neighborhood!

Thank You!

September Newsletter

     September 2015
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The kids are all back in school and our daily routine is back to hanging out with the kids at La Paz House every afternoon.  We have a lot of the youth who would hang out with us last year return plus some new kids.  Overall, things are a little less hectic.  Some of the troublemakers are maturing and all of the kids are able to play and work together better. Progress.  They are eager to work on their homework and then either work on bikes, play computer games, four square, or dodgeball.   Also, our discussions about God and life have matured a little too.  We were able to get some of our prehistoric computers upgraded and the kids like being able to play games and get their social media fix.

We are about to become empty-nesters this month (although we have thought this before just as one of the kids moved back home).  I think we are ready for this, but not sure.  It is great to see the kids get out on their own.  This also means that I can get back to finishing our house.  We have wanted to redo our bedroom and bath since we have moved in.
We do, again, say thanks to all of you who love us, pray for us, and support our work to bring love and the gospel to our neighbors.  We are blessed to have you as friends and supporters.

June Newsletter

June started out with shutting down La Paz House for the summer and converting it into a dorm. Just yesterday, the first Youthworks teams arrived here in KCK.  They have come from Minnesota, Texas, and South Dakota.  They will be working on houses, serving at local ministries and service organizations, and working with the La Paz Kids Club Summer Program.  With 55 Youthworks kids and about that many on the first day of the summer program, we are overrun with youth!  Of course, at home the doorbell rings often for me to fix a bike or skateboard and for the kids to get a cold glass of water (the water at our house is better than the water at their house.)  One teen brought his bike to get it fixed last week.  He had a flat tire and had tried to fix it himself.  He brought me the pieces.  I fixed it for him and asked him where the axle nuts were.  He told me that it never had any.  Well, I thought it was kinda funny.

We are also having a weekly discussion on immigration that Dana is leading, a weekly youth worship night, and Dana is doing a book club and garden club with some of the La Paz Kids.  Summers are busy, but a lot of fun here in our Neighborhood!

At home, we are trying to get some of the projects that we never seem to get done.  I was able to get the ceiling taped, mudded and painted in our bedroom which has been in bare sheetrock since we moved in.  Who knows, we may get the whole room done by Christmas!  Joyanna is taking summer classes and looking for an apartment downtown.

Thank you for all that you do for our ministry.  Your prayer and financial support are an huge encouragement to us!  We are so grateful to be able to minister here in our community.

Also, we are now set up for our donors to give online.  You can do an individual gift or set up recurring gifts.  If you want to use this tool,  click the "Donate Now" button in the right column of my blog.

May Newsletter

      May 2015

Once again, I am getting our newsletter out a little later than I wanted.  This past month got extremely crazy (as most Mays get).  I have been busy helping with some leadership and preached at the church while the pastor is on a long vacation.  Getting ready for the Bicycle Round-Up proved to be more work than I had planned.  I repaired most of the bikes that were donated and built some ramps and a teeter-totter for the bike obstacle couse.  It ended up being worth it.  The event was a hit with the neighborhood kids.
We passed out flyers door to door and met some  kids and adults that we had not met before.  I am not sure how many bikes we gave away, traded, and repaired, but we were going non-stop for 4 hours!  One of the cool things that happened was that I had asked one of the teens who hangs out at the after school center to help repair bikes that day.  It was cool to watch him help others and have a positive experience.  One woman commented that is it great that we do the bike event and that now her teenage son will be riding his bike all summer.

We are winding down La Paz House this next week and will be getting the church ready for the summer.  It has been a good but trying year at La Paz House, but Dana and I have had a lot of conversations with the kids about respect, responsibility, and God’s love.  With La Paz Kid’s Summer Program and Youthworks missions trip starting soon, there is hardly a break in the activity around here.

Thank you for all that you do for our ministry.
Dana and I appreciate your prayers and support.
We are looking and praying for a great summer of ministry around here!

La Paz de Dios,
Lee & Dana

      April 2015

With Easter activities and groups visiting this past few weeks, I am just now sitting down at my computer to catch up.  We held an Easter Service at Kaw Point Park where the Missouri and Kaw Rivers meet.  It was a great service with parts in English, Spanish, and Swahili.  This past weekend, I had a group of men come down from a small town in Iowa.  They conquered some much needed maintenance issues at La Paz House and the church as we start getting things ready for a busy summer of ministry.

It has been great to start conversations about Easter with some of our La Paz kids.  There is only one month left of school and the kids are already getting excited about summer.

Keep those bikes coming in! We have collected over a dozen bikes, but would like to get 25 or more before May 16th. We could also use locks, helmets, tubes, tires, etc.  Also if you are available to help repair, wash, or run an obstacle course that day, we would love to have you come down!  If your church or business can host a bike drive, let me know!

    March 2015

Not sure if this means that we are getting older, but our youngest child got married last month.  They were wed on a beautiful cermony in downtown Kansas City on a snowy day.  We got all of the Trotters dressed up and celebrated.  We are excited for Jesse and his wife Janae.  They have been nicknamed Janesse.  We are blessed.

We are getting ready for two church groups coming down to do some work on the church, La Paz House, and the La Paz House Garden.  We have also set a date for our bicycle repair and trade day.  We need to collect at least 40 bicycles, helmets, tubes, tires, etc. before May 16th.  Also if you are available to help repair, wash, or run an obstacle course that day, we would love to have you come down!  If your church or business can host a bike drive, let me know!
Now that the weather is getting nicer, there will more activity here in Prescott. Thank you for all that you do to keep us loving the families and youth in our neighborhood.  We believe that sharing God’s love will make a difference!
