Once again, I am getting our newsletter out a little later than I
wanted. This past month got
extremely crazy (as most Mays get).
I have been busy helping with some leadership and preached at the church
while the pastor is on a long vacation.
Getting ready for the Bicycle Round-Up proved to be more work than I had
planned. I repaired most of the
bikes that were donated and built some ramps and a teeter-totter for the bike
obstacle couse. It ended up being
worth it. The event was a hit with
the neighborhood kids.
We passed out flyers door to door and met some kids and adults that we had not met before. I am not sure how many bikes we gave
away, traded, and repaired, but we were going non-stop for 4 hours! One of the cool things that happened
was that I had asked one of the teens who hangs out at the after school center
to help repair bikes that day. It
was cool to watch him help others and have a positive experience. One woman commented that is it great
that we do the bike event and that now her teenage son will be riding his bike
all summer. Be the Change.
