Roots

Over the past several weeks, our Youthworks teams have been able to help out a dear lady named Ethel.  Ethel lives in an historic home just north of here.  She is proud of the fact that Alex Haley collected a lot of info for his book "Roots" from his aunt who once owned the house.

Ethel was exited to see her house scraped, primered and repainted.  Her yard was cleaned up and a whole lot of misc. chores done.  I had a team from Desperation Church down this past Sunday to help with some more technical work.  We fixed a rotten column on her sagging front porch, replaced some brick on her front steps, and installed a washer and dryer.  Ethel purchased the washer and dryer 2 years ago, but had been washing her clothes in the bathtub.  It was a joyous time when we washed and dried a comforter to test it out yesterday.  She said now she has a nice clean comforter, but probably won't have to use it anytime soon.

Sunday, as we were leaving, I asked Ethel to pray for us.  She beamed as she prayed for us, having something of value to give us back.

It was awesome to be able to encourage Ethel in Christ over these past weeks.

OK, who's next?
